NYC Therapy Services

Specializing in OCD, Trauma, and Healing Limiting Beliefs

Internal Family Systems (IFS), EMDR, and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) for OCD

Therapy can bring you closer to the person you’d like to be. This means exploring and discovering your values and aligning your life more closely with those values. It means helping you to make genuine, meaningful, purposeful choices. Thrive Psychotherapy can help you make stressful experiences more manageable by teaching you to call on your natural coping mechanisms and inner strength.

At Thrive Psychotherapy, conceived in the heart of New York City, we help people with a wide variety of struggles find relief and grow to be the people they want to be. Using mindfulness techniques that help you to understand and change problematic life patterns, we emphasize finding your strengths, your unique abilities, and allowing those to be the foundation of your growth.

We are a dual specialty practice. We specialize in treating OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) and trauma. When treating OCD we use the “gold standard” for recovery, Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP). ERP teaches people who suffer from OCD how to tolerate their intrusive thoughts and not get sucked down into the repetitive patterns of performing compulsions freeing you up to live your life with greater peace and clarity. When working with trauma, we use cutting edge, somatic therapies including EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and IFS (Internal Family Systems) to heal wounds caused by pains from childhood through adulthood. With these therapies, painful experiences and relationships can take up far less space and you can experience healing and growth. Many people find that talk therapy can only take them so far. If you’re looking to “go deeper,” somatic therapies like EMDR and IFS might be for you.

Conveniently available online via video to those in NYC, New York state, and beyond, Thrive Psychotherapy can help you recover from trauma, cope with OCD, and heal your painful limiting beliefs. We use evidence-based, cutting edge therapies to help you heal and feel more joy in your relationships, work, and life.

The most effective treatment for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder or OCD is Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) focusing on Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP). With this approach, we can help you to identify obsessions, replace compulsions with healthy coping skills, and teach you to tolerate your distress so it stops taking over your life. Together, we can teach you to confront your obsessive thoughts while reducing your urges to do compulsions giving you greater power over your OCD.

Healing Limiting Beliefs

We all have limiting beliefs about ourselves. These come about when we are children as a way to deal with a sometimes confusing or scary world. If you’ve been in talk therapy before but it feels like it hasn’t gone deep enough, attachment therapy may be right for you. If you’ve noticed that you experience painful emotions (like guilt, shame, helplessness, loneliness, or anger) over and over, you might have attachment wounds that need healing. If you have negative beliefs about yourself like “I’m not good enough,” “I’ll always be alone,” or “I’ll never get what I need,” attachment therapy can help. Using cutting edge interventions, we can help you heal your limiting beliefs and bring you closer to the life you deserve.

Trauma and stress can separate you from your intuitive coping systems. Mindfulness teaches you to tune into yourself through non-judgmental self-observation. EMDR is a cutting edge therapy that helps you heal from trauma and other distressing life experiences more quickly than traditional therapy. Against all odds, those who have undergone trauma find positive outcomes as they heal. Whether you've suffered an accident, abuse, natural disaster, or painful relationship, you will discover that you can heal from trauma - that you are a resilient person, constantly striving towards growth and wholeness.
